A Family Run Business

Founded with a passion for excellence, Kannavarai Tea has been dedicated to crafting the perfect cup of tea for generations. We source our tea leaves from the most renowned gardens, ensuring that every leaf meets our high standards. Our journey from farm to cup is guided by sustainability, quality, and a love for tea.

Our Story

1990 - The Beginning

Kannavarai Tea Industry was established, named after the nearby Kannavarai national reserve forest. The company quickly became a pioneer in quality tea manufacturing and set the standard for quality in the region.

2000 - Expanding Operations

With rising demand for premium teas, Kannavarai launched the second unit, Karodaiya Tea Industry, further strengthening production capabilities.

2004 - Retail Debut

Ventured into retail with Anand Trading Company, introducing packaged tea for local sales. This initiative empowered farmers to experience the tea they cultivated, fostering better quality harvests and improved estate management.

2010 - Scaling Up

Kannavarai acquired Rajeshwari Tea Industries to better serve the demands of the auction markets, expanding its reach.

2015

2015 - Launch of the Farmer First Policy and rebranding

With the growing demand for affordable, high-quality teas in retail, Kannavarai underwent a major rebranding. This transformation began with the Farmer First Policy, an initiative designed to support, educate, and reward farmers with premium prices for top-grade tea leaves. By ensuring a steady supply of high-quality produce, this policy enabled Kannavarai to meet market demands, strengthen its brand presence, and capture a larger market share.

2024 - Launch of the exclusive brand - Jour

Jour, our exclusive and premium tea brand. In the native Badaga dialect, "Jour" means delightful—a fitting tribute to the relentless passion, pride and dedication of our farmers. This brand not only delivers exceptional tea that captures the essence of the Nilgiris but also rewards farmers generously for their finest harvests.
